When we talk about hair follicle stimulation, essentially what we’re trying to accomplish is increased blood flow to the hair follicle region below the scalp. When there is a lack of blood flow to this area, there is a lack of oxygen being transferred and given to the hair follicles. And, when less oxygen is being transferred to the hair follicles, it inhibits its ability to produce hair at its optimum rate.
Manual Scalp Stimulation - The first technique you want to utilize numerous times throughout the day is simply stimulation of the scalp by your fingers or a brush with bristles. Massage your scalp with your fingers or apply slight pressure with your brush and comb through to the surface of the scalp. You want to apply enough force so blood flow is increased to the hair follicle. Do this several times throughout the day for ten minutes, whenever you have the opportunity. Some people even choose to do this while standing up and bent over, to increase more blood flow to the head.
Proper Hair Washing/Caring Techniques
Maintaining and caring for your hair is important to optimizing your hair growth speed. An oily scalp with dirt build-up will hinder growth, so be sure you are shampooing your hair thoroughly about two to four times a week (depending on your hair type).
- Boil about a half-cup of rosemary inside water, and add the "tea" to your shampoo. This will help to improve circulation to the scalp and open up blocked pores, improving growth. You can also use this "tea" as a final rinse after shampooing your hair.
- When applying a conditioner after shampooing your hair, prevent the conditioner from actually touching the scalp. Most retail conditioners actually tend to clog the pores on your scalp slowing growth from the hair follicles. So use it to massage onto the actual hair only.
- Don’t over wash your hair. Although it is important to prevent dirt and oil buildup, some natural oil on your scalp is actually beneficial to your hair. So, unless you have particularly oily hair, keep your shampoos regulated throughout the week about every-other day. This is why I suggest using
hair stimulating recipes before shampooing your hair, to prevent over washing.
You can take advantage of hot/cold hydrotherapy when washing your hair to promote increased blood flow. Simply run hot water on your head for 30 seconds, and then switch to cold water for 30 seconds.
Repeating this process a number of times will essentially give you an "underneath-the-scalp massage".
-Try to purchase an organic shampoo which doesn’t contain any detergents or waxes, which can actually cause build up and damage hair.
- If you must blow-dry your hair, avoid using the hot setting, and instead use cool. When using a
straightener or curing iron, apply a protectant first to prevent hair damage.
